WPU CyberFox Represents University at MIMAROPA HackforGov 2026
WPU-Main Information Systems Students Showcase Skills, Teamwork, and Cybersecurity Expertise in Metro Manila

The Western Philippines University (WPU) CyberFox team proudly represented the university at the MIMAROPA HackforGov 2026 Capture-the-Flag (CTF) Competition held from September 27 to 29, 2026, in Metro Manila. Composed of students from the College of Computing Arts and Sciences, WPU CyberFox entered the regional cybersecurity arena to test their knowledge and skills against a series of technical challenges designed to measure participants’ capabilities in cybersecurity, problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. The Capture-the-Flag competition provided participants with hands-on challenges that required them to analyze vulnerabilities, solve security-related problems, and identify hidden digital “flags” within different cybersecurity scenarios. Through the competition, the WPU representatives were able to apply concepts learned in the classroom while experiencing the demands of real-world cybersecurity problem-solving. Beyond the technical aspect of the event, HackforGov 2026 also served as an opportunity for the team to strengthen collaboration, adaptability, and decision-making under pressure. Each challenge required members to combine their individual strengths, exchange ideas, and develop strategies within a competitive environment. The participation of WPU CyberFox highlighted the growing interest and capability of Western Philippines University students in the field of cybersecurity. Their involvement also provided valuable exposure to emerging cybersecurity practices and encouraged them to further develop their technical competencies. Western Philippines University recognized the team for carrying the name of the institution and the College of Computing Arts and Sciences into the digital arena. The experience gained from HackforGov 2026 is expected to contribute to the team members’ continued development as future information technology and cybersecurity professionals. Their participation serves as an encouragement to other students to continuously explore, learn, and sharpen their skills in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity. As digital threats continue to become more complex, activities such as HackforGov provide young technology enthusiasts with opportunities to strengthen their knowledge while promoting responsible and ethical use of cybersecurity skills. For WPU CyberFox, the competition was more than a test of technical ability—it was an opportunity to learn, collaborate, represent the university, and continue hacking for good.
